When it comes to fixing a car there are several things that you can do yourself in order to save you money and car repairs.  When you think of all the different car repair shops that are out there you have to consider and the price of the parts and labor costs in order to make sure that you are doing the best deal possible.  Every shop as different prices for labor so if you do decide to call our repair shop you have to know what they’re going to charge you per hour for labor.  Taking this into consideration there are several things that you can do yourself in order to save you quite a bit of money on your next car repairs.

The one thing that you can do that will help your car out and will save you quite a bit of money is an oil change.  An oil change can run you up to $40.00 depending on which company you choose to do the oil change.  If you are purchasing the oil yourself and you purchase your own filter you will be able to cut the cost and half.  Doing it yourself would only cost you around $20.00 to do the complete oil change and only about 15 minutes or so.  This is not a lot of time in order to make sure that your car’s going to run properly.

Another thing that you can do yourself is on as you have the knowledge is to change your brakes and rotors.  Changing the brakes will consist of purchasing new brake pads for the vehicle you own.  You can go to any local parts store to purchase the correct pads you need as well as the rotors.  Once you have all of this in your possession you will be able to change the brake pads and the rotors the same time.  This job should only take you about 30 minutes from start to finish.  Some people do not know what they’re doing when they are changing the brake pads and rotors so that they get into the shop and get charged way too much.

Another thing that you can do it yourself instead of bringing it to a repair shop is to give your car a complete tune-up.  A complete tune-up will consist of changing the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, and if the vehicle is old enough, a rotor.  Some of the new vehicles have an electronic ignition module connected right to the distributor.  When you purchase a new distributor you should get an electric ignition module with it.  This job only takes about 45 minutes to do it yourself and save you some money.
