Car Insurance and Christmas
Car insurance might not be the first gift you think of over Christmas, but the festive season can be a particularly risky time of year, so it’s worth considering the level of car insurance you have. With bad weather, holidays, long journeys, and increased valuables in your car over the festive season – you should make sure that your car insurance quote covers a breadth of eventualities.
Bad weather:
Bad weather is on the increase over Christmas. With lower temperatures, icy conditions and low visibility – you may find the weather takes its toll on your car as well as on your driving. You should ensure you have sufficient car insurance to cover car accidents or damage as a result of the bad weather.
Holidays and long journeys:
Christmas time often brings families closer together – but that usually means that someone has to do the driving. You may find yourself packing your whole family into the car to visit relatives at the other end of the country, and with increased miles there comes the increased risks to your car.
Perhaps your family takes a complete break over Christmas and you escape abroad for a holiday or to visit family. Good auto insurance should cover your car for a specified time whilst you are driving in Europe, usually giving you the same level of cover that you enjoy at home. Whilst holidays and long journeys will have their family rewards at Christmas, your car insurance policy should also give your family security.
Valuables in your car:
With Christmas presents given and received, your car could be at increased risk of theft during the festive season. Avoid storing any gifts or other valuables in your car over Christmas, as opportunist thieves could be on the lookout to take valuables left in the car.
Good car insurance could offer you insurance which is particularly useful at Christmas time. Valuables will usually be insured up to the value of £250 for each incident, however this usually only applies to personal items, and goods, tools or samples carried for work will not be covered.
Christmas should be a time for celebrating the season with friends, families and loved ones. Whilst car insurance might not be the top of your list for Santa’s little helpers this year – you should still assess your insurance policy before the festivities begin, to ensure you have the correct level of cover for your family’s yuletide needs.
